The Trailside Foundation is a non-profit organization focused on building a stronger, healthier  community through small-scale agriculture. 

Trailside uses Southwestern Pennsylvania’s rich, family-focused agricultural history to inspire modern growers, gardeners and small farmers to build healthy, sustainable futures.

In the mid 1700s, Alexander McConnell and his son Matthew cleared and settled  Blackwood Farm in Cecil Township, Pennsylvania.

A portion of the farm remained in the McConnell family for seven generations, serving as witness to the evolution of agriculture in the United States.

In 2018, the remaining 22 acres of Blackwood Farm was placed in

In 2018, the remaining 22 acres of Blackwood Farm was placed in the hands of the Trailside Foundation,  a non-profit organization aimed at merging past and present farming methods to secure the future of locally grown food.

The Trailside Foundation is focused on building a stronger, healthier  community in Cecil Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania through small-scale agriculture opportunities and historic preservation.
